Welcome to the Join-a-School Community Resource Guide. The intent of this database is to assist educators with contact information for business/community organizations willing to participate in career exploration activities and/or special one time educational events, i.e. judging science fairs.

Businesses/organizations are grouped in the database by the following State Career Pathways:

There are two ways to access  information:

  1. Click on the appropriate pathway and all  entries designated for that career cluster will appear.

  2. Check the index at the end of the database for a complete listing of all entries, click on the name and the information will emerge.

Here are some tips for teachers to follow when using someone listed in this database:

bullet

Schools should make direct contact with speakers and other resource people.

bullet

Follow up your initial contact with a written confirmation.

bullet

Two weeks is the minimum time needed to request a presenter.

bullet

Prepare your students for the presentation by linking it to the curriculum and to standards.

bullet

Notify the office that you will have a speaker coming.

bullet

If appropriate, have a student in the office to meet the guest and act as an escort.

bullet

Get some background information so that someone can introduce the speaker.

bullet

Teachers should remain in the classroom with the presenter at all times and be responsible for the behavior of the class.

bullet

Please have the students send thank you notes directly to the speaker.

bullet

Call the Join-a-School office if there are concerns about any listing in this database or to give us feedback about how we can improve.
